Tuesday night – Running Libbys

Zane and I played hooky today and duct out for an hour and a half midday to go run the Libbys Lookout Trail.… It’s pretty steep in parts but it’s so beautiful out that it’s worth it we can do the whole thing just over 30 minutes… Which I think is pretty good.

I love being outside

Tonight our beautiful old girl chai isn’t feeling well. She will be 17 next week if she hangs on

It’s up to her

Sunday night – Backcountry

Diane and I are really getting into this back country bushwhacking.…

We’re getting to know some of the wilderness back behind our house. It’s really fun connecting the dots between a bunch of places

Were determined to find the location of the old Wylie lodge. It was dismantled and burned by the Green Mountain club in 1983.

We’ve tried approaching it from the Robbins Mountainside today we approached it from the happy Hollow side which is on the other side in Huntington.

We started off by heading up through thick woods up to a ridge to see if we can figure things out.… It was slow going because it was very steep very wooded. We finally came down to a road… And a pond which we always have known was there but I’ve never seen. I actually took a swim. Then we followed some single lane bike tracks up in the woods explored a couple of different things before heading straight through the woods to where we thought Wylie would be.

We were surprised to find signs back in the woods like that. I’d have to see it to know how remote this was

Eventually after crashing to the bush for over an hour we might be the location of Wylie Lodge. We were about to give up with Diane found a blue blaze… Then right after that I found two pieces of stove pipe in an old tin can. That had to be the place. We also found some sawed logs etc. signs Of human existence… In the middle of nowhere

Super fun doing this kind of exploring… Especially with this wonderful fall we’re having

Saturday night- 2360

Diane and I spent the morning working on the house . This afternoon we just needed to get outside . Our goal today was to climb the mysterious mount 2360 (aka Wiley lodge mountain) it’s not a big mountain .. just 2360’feet high .. but there are no trails up it and we look at it all the time . We’re getting really in to bushwhacking you these UK names mountains to learn our neighborhood better . We really want to go to where other folks are not going ..

It was a nice steep climb.. some nettles and thick brush .. but worth the hike

The peak itself was in a dense tree thicket

Bit a few meters away was a rock outcropping with amazing views to the south and west .

This is looking over at Robbins mountain ..which is our backyard

It was raining and cold Nd we were pretty chilled by the time we started heading down. We just followed a stream and it dutifully took us to the trail.. steep but beautiful !

Now time for sleep. More tomorrow
